Origin Based Billing use case
You can use areas simply to add additional information about the geographic location of source and destination numbers in the CDR. However, the main use case for this feature is Origin Based Billing, where call pricing and routing depend on source and destination areas. By adding Routing Tag detection rules, you can assign different Routing tags to calls based on Src/Dst area combinations and later apply different pricing and routing logic depending on the routing tag.
TIP
See the Using Routing tags guide for additional details about Routing tags.
See the Routing Quick Start guide for an example of Origin Based Billing configuration.
